Since his first TIF procedure in November 2009, Dr. Ihde also has the distinction of having performed the most TIF procedures in the US—640 and counting—and contributed patients to US TIF Registry. The American Journal of Surgery published, in 2011, his initial series on hiatal hernia performed immediately prior to a TIF procedure. In 2015, they published Dr. Ihde’s more recent data “A comparison of the endoscopic and laparoscopic view of the gastroesophageal junction in the use of transoral fundoplication” which is a comprehensive evaluation of methods of hiatal hernia measurement. These data, and his testimony, were vital to the FDA submission which expanded the EsophyX device labeling. Granted in June 2017 adding this sentence: “Patients with hiatal hernias larger than 2cm may be included, when a laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair reduces the hernia to 2cm or less.”
